Terra Cottage Ceramics - Reading Glasses

April 28, 2015

We have a new artist, Michael Terra, aka the Mud Poet guy.  Check out his wonderful designs available at Spectrum Gallery!

"Not those kind of reading glasses, Silly!, these are glasses you have to read...

Each one of these is a delicious micro puzzle for your brain as you decipher the meaning on each vessel by, (moving from left to right), pronouncing the word fragment and saying the name of the large letter. For example: we have pictured "artist"...how much fun is that?

Then there are more layers! on the opposite side of the glass I cycle the word "EARTH" so that is spells Heart, Hearth, Hear, The, Art...and then, hidden somewhere on the glass is another random phrase that you'll find (eventually).

The non-shiny texture on the outside is a process of layering oxides and engobes that leaves the surface feeling like leather in your hand, an especially neat texture when you are drinking something cold. These 23 ounce stoneware vessels are totally happy in the dishwasher or the microwave, (which is more than I can say for me), and they are good for hot or cold beverages.

Colors are random but look really cool, don't they? There are over 250 different wordplay options to choose from (so far).

*STUFF YOU WANT TO KNOW*

All of this work is hand sculpted and includes genuine fingerprints... Everything is made of white stoneware and high-fired. All of the clay, glaze, engobes, oxides, and tortillas are completely food-safe. All sayings, quips, poetry and wordplay is original and the property of Michael Terra (me; that Mud Poet guy)."
