Kristin
Gibson paints almost everyday on her dining room easel or back yard
sawhorses. In the salt air of Carolina Beach, near Wilmington, NC,
Kristin creates spirited paintings and scarves stirred from elements of
daily life. Following the study of surface design and painting at ECU
School of Art, her career began in the textile industry designing prints
for upholstery, ticking and childrenswear collections. Today, colorful
canvasses reflect discoveries made by watching yards and yards of fabric
printed before her eyes.
"Finding
perpetual inspiration in organic shapes and hues of fruits, flowers,
vegetables and the sea, my works begin as drawings with my paintbrush.
With bold immediacy and working entirely from day-to-day subjects, lines
in a layer of paint jump-start a fluent process of color into color,
paint into paint. Favorite aspects of a painting emerge as spontaneous
composition and expressive brushwork that sings. These impasto marks
offering hints and glimpses into my process. Truth is, I paint the way I
cook – not afraid to mix a little of this, with a little of that.
Mixing form and flavors, mixing colors, open to the unexpected and
intuitive the subject and process brings forth."
